Work Experience Week
This week we have welcomed Daniel from a local upper school as part of his work experience placement. Over the course of his first week, Daniel has been doing a number of different tasks in the office, which have included sourcing appropriate planning application forms and filling them out in preparation of the submission of a planning application to a local planning authority, appraising a number of sites on their appropriateness for residential redevelopment, and measuring up scale drawings in preparation for jobs requiring pricing. Our Managing Director Ian Stimpson was very impressed that Daniel picked up the basic principles of reading scaled-drawings and using a scale ruler to work out the areas very quickly, and even converted the square metreage into square feet. During his time in the office Daniel has been required to use his initiative and utilise his research and I.T skills in order to source relevant information as well as develop new skills that have been required to achieve success in these tasks, whilst at the same time working to deadlines.
He has also spent time outside of the office visiting a number of our completed sites and also some of our active sites in order to get a basic and practical understanding of the construction industry and the day-to-day processes that are involved. Whilst out on site we were able to explain to Daniel the types of homes that we are providing and who our clients are.
By his own admission, Daniel started the week knowing very little about Key Partnership Homes, the affordable housing industry, housing need or the construction industry, but through various tasks over the course of the week he is building a basic understanding and has indicated (without any prompting!) that he is enjoying his placement with us.
A great first week and well done Daniel!
